You won’t find this Red Oak in the “big box” or chain stores. This is Northern Red Oak … the best there is. Red Oak grows from Alabama to Canada and every state in between. It’s all supposed to be Quercus rubra, but sometimes the “volume mills” will include other Oaks in the mix. Southern Red Oak grows faster, and is measurably softer as a result. Northern Red Oak is 5% harder, cleaner in appearance, and more stable. Southern Red is cheaper, so it’s favored by our competitors … but they still can’t beat our price.
